Bunion massage and bunion shockwave therapy are two types of therapy that can be used to help alleviate pain and discomfort associated with bunions. Here’s what the research says about their benefits:

Bunion massage: Massage can help to improve blood flow and reduce muscle tension around the affected area. A study published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science found that foot massage was effective for reducing pain and improving function in patients with hallux valgus (the medical term for bunions). Similarly, a study published in the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation found that massage therapy was effective for reducing pain and improving function in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Bunion shockwave therapy: Shockwave therapy involves using high-energy sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. A study published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association found that shockwave therapy was effective for reducing pain and improving function in patients with chronic plantar fasciitis, which is a common foot condition that can cause pain in the heel and arch of the foot. While there is limited research specifically on the use of shockwave therapy for bunions, it may be a promising treatment option for patients who do not respond to other therapies.

It’s worth noting that while bunion massage and shockwave therapy may provide some relief for bunion pain, they should be used as a complementary therapy alongside other treatments, such as orthotics or physical therapy. It’s also important to talk to your doctor before starting any new therapy, especially if you have a medical condition or injury.
