Brooks Adrenaline vs Beast: Podiatrist Guide — Stability vs Motion Control
The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 and the Brooks Beast 24 are both motion-control/stability shoes — but they sit at different ends of the support spectrum. As a podiatrist, I prescribe these to very different patients. Getting this wrong can worsen overpronation injuries rather than correct them.

GuideRails vs Rollbar + GuideRails
The Adrenaline GTS uses Brooks’ GuideRails system — raised ridges on the medial and lateral sides of the midsole that only engage when your foot moves excessively. It’s a reactive support system, not a constant correction force. This makes it appropriate for mild-moderate pronators who need occasional guidance without over-engineering every step.
The Beast layers in a Progressive Diagonal Rollbar (PDRB) — a denser foam post embedded in the medial midsole that actively resists inward collapse at every footstrike. Combined with GuideRails, this creates dual-layer motion control. It’s heavier (13.2 oz vs 10.2 oz) and significantly more corrective. For severe flatfoot patients, that extra 3 oz is worth it.

Can You Use Orthotics With Either?
Both have removable insoles. For the Adrenaline, custom orthotics pair well with the GuideRails to give layered support. For the Beast, I typically caution against adding maximum-correction orthotics — you can over-correct and drive lateral stress. If you need both the Beast and custom orthotics, consult your podiatrist about the appropriate orthotic prescription to avoid over-correction.
FAQs
Is the Beast only for very overweight runners?
No — weight is one factor but not the only one. Any runner with severe structural pronation or PTTD may need the Beast regardless of body weight. However, heavy runners do collapse stability shoes faster, making the Beast’s extra structure worthwhile.
Is the Adrenaline GTS a good walking shoe?
Yes — it’s one of the best walking shoes for mild-moderate pronators. The 12mm drop and GuideRails system makes it excellent for all-day wear, standing, and casual walking.
Do both come in extra wide?
The Adrenaline GTS 24 comes in 2E (wide) and 4E (extra wide) for men, 2E for women. The Beast 24 comes in 2E and 4E for men. Brooks is the best major brand for wide-width availability.
