Soccer-Specific Foot Injury Patterns
Soccer creates foot injury risks from two primary mechanisms: (1) direct contact injuries — studs landing on feet, tackles, and hyperextension events; and (2) repetitive overuse from sprinting, cutting, and kicking on firm surfaces. The footwear (cleats) creates a different load distribution than athletic shoes — the metatarsal heads bear significant pressure between studs, and the rigid cleat sole restricts natural foot motion.
The Most Common Soccer Foot Injuries
