You Want Better Foot Care for Your Parent — Here’s What to Do
If your parent or loved one lives in an assisted living facility and you’ve noticed their toenails are overgrown, they’re complaining of foot pain, or they’re developing a wound, getting them professional foot care is simpler than you might think. Balance Foot & Ankle provides both on-site facility visits and individual home visits for Livingston and Oakland County residents.
Option 1: Ask Their Facility to Schedule a Visit
If we already visit your parent’s facility, simply ask the facility staff to add your parent to our visit schedule. Most facilities have a podiatry day and can easily add new residents to the roster. If we don’t currently visit their facility, ask the facility director about arranging a podiatry partnership — many facilities are receptive when family members advocate for this service.
Option 2: Schedule a Direct Home Visit
If your parent’s facility doesn’t have on-site podiatry, or if you prefer to schedule directly, we can arrange a home visit. Medicare covers podiatric care for qualifying patients — most assisted living residents qualify for covered nail care, diabetic foot exams, and diabetic shoe fitting.
What to Expect
Our visit includes a comprehensive foot assessment, nail care, callus or corn treatment as needed, skin inspection, and a conversation with any caregivers or family members present. Notes go to the attending physician. Follow-up visits are scheduled based on clinical need (typically every 60 days for Medicare-covered nail care).
